Thinking about getting to the root of the story that no longer helps us is so much of the "deprogramming" so many of us need to do, and I nodded along to what you said about your reactions to watching depictions of Black people being harmed in "entertainment" (and the "news"). I can't stand those things -- I didn't even like watching Geordi get tortured on Star Trek The Next Generation -- but as someone who isn't Black (I'm Korean and Ashkenazi), I've been made to feel like if I don't watch those things then I'm denying the violence of the reality (as if it's somehow impossible to take people seriously when they say Black people have been brutalized without seeing it).
